About US

Montgomery Philharmonic is a community orchestra based in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Our all-volunteer ensemble of adult musicians serves the greater Washington DC area with free concerts and other community engagement.

Dedicated to providing opportunities to enjoy, explore, and create music, the Montgomery Philharmonic promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion by programming a diverse repertoire alongside “standard literature” and constantly striving to find diversity in musicians who add to our orchestral culture.

The Montgomery Philharmonic also gives school-age musicians equity in orchestral playing by hosting orchestra clinics and a summer Youth Leadership and Chamber Music Festival. Additionally, we play a side-by-side concert with students in our local school cluster.

We provide an environment that promotes excellence for musicians who want to play orchestral music for themselves and for the community. Our goal is for our audience to experience classical music from great composers ranging from Joseph Bologne to Florence Price to Anton Webern and everything in between.

We come together in the community to share a love of music in an exciting and welcoming environment.

SUMMER READING SESSIONS

Each summer we enjoy a romp through major orchestral works in a low key atmosphere each summer. SRS events are held on 6 to 8 consecutive Mondays in July and August each year. Please continue to check our website for details as the summer approaches.

YOUTH LEADERSHIP CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL

The YLCMF runs concurrently with the SRS and members are invited to participate in the SRS as well. The Festival concludes with a concert and ice cream social for YLCMF participants, SRS attendees, families, and friends. Registration will open soon, so check our website frequently for details.

BERNIE RAPPAPORT MIDDLE SCHOOL YOUNG ARTISTS COMPETITION

All finalists will have an opportunity, in a tag-team setting, to play excerpts as soloists with the Montgomery Philharmonic at concert detwrmined by the Music Director. Please continue to check our werbsite for updates.

Adult Education Master Classes with Members of the BSO and NSO
